I empty the trash bin on my Mac at the end of every day. Every once in a while, I'll get a message that reads, 'Operation can't be completed because the item [file name] is in use.' How is that possible? I know it's not in use because I'm not using it. I deleted it. I threw it in the trash! I'm the boss of this process!

Make sure you're using the right Apple ID. If you can't update apps, check that you're using the right Apple ID. When you download an app, it's tied to the Apple ID you used when you downloaded it. That means that you need to be logged into that original Apple ID to use the app on your iPhone. Apr 01, 2020  This situation mostly arises when people buy a refurbished iPhone or iPad and the App Store shows the first owner’s Apple ID instead of the newly created Apple ID. It’s not an issue, remove the Apple ID if it is of no use to you. Then the App Store will automatically show the correct Apple ID. Oct 27, 2013  The Windows Font folder itself is using the font, hence why you can't delete the font - i.e. The very tool you're using to delete the font is using said font and thus locking the file! There are a few reasons that your Mac might think an item is in use when you know that it isn't, including the possibility that the program it was opened with thinks you are still using it.

Apple used to have this handy tool called 'Secure Empty Trash' that coincidentally also trashed files that were still in use, but that was removed in El Capitan.

Don't worry, though. There is still an easy way to remove those mischievous files from your computer when emptying the trash bin doesn't seem to work.

Why can

Feb 02, 2017  my whatsapp needs to be updated, so i can use it. Cant update my whatsapp because the apple id that is setup to update that is no longer valid. If you still can’t delete anything on your Mac because the startup disk is too full, your last option is to erase it entirely and reinstall macOS.
